Greeting of the patron of the 13th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf 2013

Prof. Monika Grütters MdB

Chairwoman of the Committee for Culture and the Media in the German Federal Parliament

This is the 13th time now that the international choir world will be coming during the Whitsun period in Marktoberdorf to one of the most famous competitions for chamber choirs in the world. “Sing, if you have been given the gift of singing” – this invitation from the poet Ludwig Uhland will be followed by choirs from all over the
world who will be performing international choral music in a thrilling competition and in unusual concerts in the capital of the Ostallgäu regional district.
A high standard of performance, a musical contest and meeting and making friends are the hallmarks of this wonderful chamber choir competition in Marktoberdorf.
Getting to know very diff erent choirs and repertoires, the chance to meet diff erent musical traditions, hear new or unknown works and exchange musical experiences - Marktoberdorf will become a place to meet and get to know others.
I should especially like to thank the Federal Association of German Choral Organizations for their efforts in  romoting music in our country and for their enthusiastic preparation and organization of this unique competition.
I hope very much that the 13th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf will run harmoniously and I wish you, dear participants and audiences, many wonderful hours enjoying the sounds from all the musical spheres of choral music. Let us look forward to enjoying this very special artistic experience!
